Amy is a native
of Cedar Falls, IA, spending her summers 7 miles from the border
of Canada. She attended The College of Visual Arts in St. Paul,
MN, receiving a Bachelor of Fine Art Degree. Her work has won
her awards in Iowa and Minnesota. She now resides in Minneapolis,
MN.
Her love of landscapes
reflects her childhood camping and canoeing trips throughout
Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin. Her parents then built a cabin
on Snowbank Lake near Ely, MN which became her second home.
You will see scenes from camping trips through the Boundary
Waters. Her appreciation of nature is vital in her work. Her
paintings are romantic and are impressionistic in style. The
interplay of light at different times of day always appears
in her work. She chooses oils for the richness of the colors
and the dramatic effects they help to create.
After college she
learned sign painting and did this for many years, then began
a linoleum-block printed clothing business called Sundiale Designs.
She traveled to Arizona to do art shows during the winter. Hiking
through the scenic southwest inspired the paintings you see.
She owns land near Wickenburg, AZ.
She feels compelled
to express Native American themes as well. They're meant for
healing and communicating the ideals of a culture that embraced
nature, animals, and all life as equal importance. Her interests
include the teachings of Lynn Andrews, Dr. A. C. Ross, and various
reference materials that outline the heritage and lifestyle
of Native Americans. She hopes to donate a percentage of these
themed works to the art department at the Pine Ridge Indian
Reservation.
Her goal as an artist
is to provide and capture a sense of a waking dream, so to speak.
